Simon Fell - Director - Innovizr Ltd
Simon is the Founder and Director of Innovizr Ltd a Media and Technology Consultancy in the UK. Working with a number of clients Simon is also on the Board of Piksel Inc. and an Adviser to Streamhub. Simon is also the Independent Chairman of the UK’s Digital TV Group DTG since 2019. and he is a member of the IBC Council.
Until Feb 2018 Simon was based in Geneva as the EBU Director of Technology & Innovation he was responsible for steering EBU Technology & Innovation and working closely with the EBU Members, driving media innovation and integration, setting standards and defining and sharing best practices in media production and delivery. His role also involved driving business development for the EBU.
Previously Simon was CTO for IT at Heathrow, until feb 2013 - responsible for strategy, technical innovation, programme development and technical standards,. He has also been Technology Consultant to Freeview from 2009 to 2011 working on the launch of Freeview HD, Connected TV, VOD services, and liaison with CE manufacturers.
He was until 2009 the Director of Future Technologies for ITV. He was with ITV from 1991. Having been involved since before the merger of Carlton and Granada, Simon saw much change and development as Digital Television and the Internet have transformed the media landscape.
Throughout that time he was deeply involved in operations and engineering and in latter years established and ran ITV’s Future Technologies unit that helped pilot and rollout new platforms for ITV in mobile, HDTV and online.
In his time as Director of Technology for ITV Consumer he led the technology team behind the rollout of itv.com, ITV player and new mobile initiatives.
He championed HDTV leading the successful HDTV trial on DTT in the London area and later ITV-HD on Freesat. He has been involved in the DTG since it’s inception and has served as a member of the DTG Council and as chairman of the High Definition Forum. He is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society and a Fellow of the Society of Motion Pictures and Television Engineers - SMPTE.
Formerly in 2009 he represented UK Broadcasters on the EBU Technical Committee. He has had forty five years’ experience as an Engineer in the Television and Media Industry; previous jobs include Director of Engineering for Rushes, Chief Engineer of 625 and Electronic Engineering at Channel Four. He has also worked in America with Rank Cintel USA and in Leeds with Yorkshire Television
